Hello,
I’m looking to begin therapy with a clinician who specializes in CBT with exposure therapy for panic disorder and phobias.
I’m specifically seeking help for a driving-related phobia with panic attacks and a freeze response. This began after a prior blackout experience while driving (caused by a combination of sleep deprivation, stress, and alcohol in 2014). Since then, I experience significant anxiety and occasional panic attacks when attempting to drive, and at times my body goes into a freeze response.
I’m looking for a structured, exposure-based approach (fear hierarchy, gradual exposure, and panic management techniques), rather than general talk therapy.
Could you please let me know:
– If any of your clinicians specialize in exposure therapy for panic or driving phobias
– How you typically structure treatment for this type of issue
– Availability for an initial consultation
Thank you in advance,
Natalie
Hi Natalie,
Thank you so much for comment, and sharing about the incredibly difficult sounding experiences you have been going though. Yes all of our clinicians specialize in panic and driving phobias/obsessions, and follow formal CBT protocols for treating though ERP, ACT, and other approaches. This would usually start with gathering the details, teaching tools, setting up hierarchy and setting up structured approaches, often done revolving exposures involving the car during the session. Most clinicians have varying availability, so I would recommend just calling our main number at 310-824-5200, and speak with our client coordinator Lisa O’Reilly who will help with picking a therapist. The therapist would then contact you to set up the initial consultation :).
Thank you so much, and best to you in moving towards the next steps and getting some help!
Chris
