OCD Therapy / Support Groups
In addition to individual therapy, we offer nine low-fee therapy / support groups for adults with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related anxiety-based conditions. These therapy/support groups are open to individuals with the following conditions:
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Pure Obsessional OCD (Pure O)
- HOCD / Gay OCD
- Harm OCD
- Scrupulosity OCD
- Relationship OCD (ROCD)
- Perinatal / Postpartum OCD
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
- Hypochondria / Health Anxiety
- Social Anxiety / Social Phobia
- Panic Disorder
- Phobias
- Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder)
- Dermatillomania (Skin Picking Disorder)
Research has shown that structured, group Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be extremely helpful in the treatment of these conditions. Quite often, people with these issues feel extremely isolated due to the secretive nature of their disorders, and have never met another person suffering with similar anxiety symptoms. Our groups provide a safe and supportive environment in which people can actively address their symptoms with others who are also working to overcome similar issues. Group sessions include individual members tackling specific symptoms that have been particularly problematic. Group members discover that trying new, more productive coping strategies is often easier with the support of other group members who know just how difficult it is to face one’s fears.
Of our weekly therapy / support groups for adults, six are for individuals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other related anxiety disorders, two are exclusively for adults with Dermatillomania (Skin Picking Disorder) and Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder), and one is specifically for adults with Social Anxiety / Social Phobia. Please note that all of our weekly groups are open only to adults currently living in California, and participation requires assessment prior to admission. Below is information on each of these groups:

Many individuals secretly suffer with Dermatillomania, Trichotillomania, and other BFRBs such as lip biting, cheek biting, and nail biting. These conditions are characterized by recurrent, compulsive self-damaging behaviors, and are usually resistant to improvement with traditional talk therapy. However, these conditions respond very well to a specific type of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy called “Habit Reversal Training” (HRT). This therapy has been found to be the most effective treatment for these conditions. Our weekly groups focus on HRT, Cognitive Restructuring, and Mindfulness-Based CBT, three treatment modalities that have been found to be particularly effective with these conditions.
