My grandson who is 20 is currently living with us. He carries childhood trauma, suffers from OCD among many other things such as extreme social anxiety, depression. Your program sounds very interesting. He was removed from his childhood home about 1 1/2 years ago. We have been trying to help him; he graduated from high school, got his drivers license, has had 2 jobs but ends up being let go because he calls in sick a lot and is not dependable.
He is a very sweet and kind person, causes no trouble, but can’t participate in life. He has no friends and mostly has been staying in bed.
He was raised by his mother and a step.
dad. He was never nurtured as a child. I think his Mom is bipolar and the stepdad alcoholic. His Mother ran away when pregnant and our son (now deceased) was never allowed contact. We heard from them very occasionally but had no contact with him until 7 years ago.
My husband and I are in our late 70’s. We feel inept as how to help him.
Hi Joane,
Thank very much for comment, and I am so sorry to hear about how hard of a time your grandson has had. Your family has gone through much hardship, and I hear your concern about wanting to help change the tide for him. Of course, you are always welcomed to give our number to him and can call together if that is helpful for him. I also recommend the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) which has many qualified therapists if that works best for you.
Our main number is: 310-824-5200 and you would speak with our client coordinator Lisa O’Reilly.
The website for the IOCDF is https://iocdf.org, and you would use the therapist finder there. You can also call the main number at (617) 973-5801.
Thank you again, and best to you and your grandson. Please take care.
Chris
