Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
License #53916

Chris Cincotta, MFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California. Chris received his master’s degree in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), and has specialized in treating OCD and related conditions since 2013. Chris has completed specialized training through the Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) at the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), as well as the Virtual Professional Training Institute (VPTI) at the TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs). He has also completed advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) at the Beck Institute and intensive Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) training for OCD and related disorders at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA).

Chris’s work at the OCD Center of Los Angeles focuses on CBT, ERP, and mindfulness- and acceptance-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), for adults, adolescents, and children struggling with OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), anxiety disorders, and BFRBs such as dermatillomania (skin picking disorder) and trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder). Chris has also worked as a therapist and clinical supervisor in intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs treating a broad range of mental health conditions, where he also provided specialized treatment for individuals with OCD and related conditions.

Chris has developed a particular clinical interest in Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), for which he receives ongoing consultation. He offers I-CBT as a stand-alone treatment or integrates it with ERP and ACT/mindfulness-based approaches, depending on each client’s individual needs, preferences, and treatment goals.

Chris also has extensive experience treating trauma and trauma-related conditions, having completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 2014. He continues to receive consultation in EMDR and the Flash Technique and is especially interested in the intersection of OCD and trauma, including how traumatic experiences may contribute to or complicate OCD symptoms and treatment.

Chris maintains a particular interest in OCD presentations involving predominantly intrusive thoughts and mental compulsions, commonly described as primarily obsessional OCD or “Pure O.” These may include sexual orientation OCD (SO-OCD), pedophilia-themed OCD (POCD), relationship OCD (ROCD), and harm OCD. He is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), the TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, and the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).
