The OCD Center of Los Angeles is happy to announce that three of our staff therapists will be presenting a panel discussion at the upcoming Online OCD Conference being offered by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).
Our panel discussion is titled “When OCD Comes Between Us: Relationship OCD and Recovery”, and will take place on the internet at the following time:
Sunday, August 2, 2020
11:00 am – 12:15 pm Eastern time
(8:00 am – 9:15 am Pacific time)
The panelists for this exciting program are:
- Laura Yocum, LMFT
- Lauren McMeikan, LMFT
- Kelley Franke, AMFT
The discussion will explore how Relationship OCD (ROCD) can attack different relationships, and can include a broad range of obsessions and compulsions. This presentation will focus on:
- The different types of ROCD.
- Common triggers, obsessions, and compulsions.
- Navigating the pitfalls unique to ROCD.
- How to support the ROCD sufferer, and the person at the center of their obsessions, and their relationship.
- Ideas for exposure work, both active and passive.
- The role of values in the treatment of ROCD.
This program will be immensely valuable for those struggling with ROCD, as well as for mental health therapists who are providing treatment to sufferers. Attendees of this discussion will learn:
- How to quickly identify ROCD triggers, obsessions and compulsions.
- How to implement effective ROCD exposure exercises.
- How values can inform recovery from ROCD.
The panel discussion will conclude with a live, 30-minute Q&A with the presenters answering questions from the online audience.
